Tails of Crisis Response and Resilience in Mass Casualty Events

We all know that dogs are man’s best friend, but did you know that they can be a resilience professional’s BFF too? Attend this session to explore a little-known resource that could benefit your organization’s program and people. Members of the Tri-State Canine Response Team (the humans) will take attendees through actual crisis response deployments following recent mass shootings in Uvalde, Las Vegas, and Indianapolis. Learn what dogs, who have a way of de-stressing humans without even trying, paired with trained responders can do for you in those critical hours and days post-crisis. What began as a small, therapy dog group aimed at providing comfort and support to local first responders has grown to include nearly 100 teams in 7 U.S. states, provided national support during 18 mass casualty incidents, responded to hundreds of local incidents, and most recently expanded internationally. This presentation will provide insight into this unique approach, demonstrate why canine/human crisis teams are effective, and show how resources like these can help your employees bounce back after a crisis.
