Aris Papadopoulos

Founding Chair, Resilience Action Fund, and Distinguished Expert in Resilience, Florida International University’s Extreme Events Institute

Aris Papadopoulos is Founding Chair of Resilience Action Fund, a non-profit advancing greater awareness, transparency and education for greater resilience from natural and other hazards in the built environment. He authored the book: ‘Resilience–The Ultimate Sustainability: Lessons from Failing to Develop a Stronger and Safer Built Environment’. He is a Distinguished Expert in Resilience at Florida International University’s Extreme Events Institute.

He has 35 years experience in the construction and energy industries. In 2014 he retired from Titan America, a billion dollar construction materials business, after building the company and serving 20 years as CEO. He currently chairs the board of ST Equipment & Technology, a worldwide provider of industrial waste reclamation and water conservation solutions.

Aris also serves on the board of the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE). He was founding chair of the UNISDR Private Sector Advisory Group, advocating for resilience before four UN Disaster Risk Reduction Conferences and played an active role in developing the ‘UN Sendai Framework forDRR: 2015-30’.

He chaired the Concrete Joint Sustainability Initiative and the Portland Cement Association, receiving the American Concrete Institute’s Sustainability Award in 2013. He served the boards of the US Green Concrete Council, MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub and CTL Group. Aris earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees from MIT in Chemical Engineering and an MBA from Harvard University.
