James A. Mitchell

Director, Organizational Resilience, Texas Children’s Hospital

James Mitchell is the Director of organizational resilience for Texas Children’s, the world’s largest children’s hospital. He joined Texas Children’s in September of 2015 and has an extensive background in emergency management, crisis management, business continuity  and IT disaster recovery in the energy and investments industries in addition to his extensive experience in healthcare.  While at Texas Children’s, Mitchell has worked with his team and organizational leadership to significantly mature the emergency management program through a series of highly complex, large-scale exercises focused on active shooter and mass casualty events. He was also instrumental in the organization’s successful response to historic flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and has led the organization through the implementation of a business continuity program addressing critical gaps in preparedness. Additionally, he has considerable experience implementing several market leading emergency notification systems across various industries. He completed an MBA from LeTourneau University in 2010 and is a DRI Master Business Continuity Professional.
